A Family Tradition since 1947

N.T. Ferro Jewelers continues a family tradition in jewelry design and production

“My father came to the United States from Italy in the early 20th century. He apprenticed as a jeweler, and in 1947, started his own jewelry design and manufacturing firm. For over 40 years, our family business created fine custom jewelry for independent jewelry stores across the country. When it came to quality, my father, Nicholas Sr., was uncompromising. Today, N.T. Ferro Jewelers carries on this same tradition of excellence. From timeless designs to our unique estate pieces, which are carefully selected from all over the world, you are assured of the N.T. Ferro mark of excellence. And if you are looking for something truly unique, our Custom Design Studio can create that special piece personally for you – jewelry you will treasure for years to come.”

Nicholas T. Ferro, Jr.

A FAMILY TRADITION

Nicholas Ferro, Sr. came from Naples, Italy to the United States when he was a child. A self-trained jeweler, he opened Essex Jewelers, Inc., a jewelry manufacturing company in Newark, New Jersey, in 1947. By the mid-1960s, Essex Jewelers had grown to become one of the leading ring designers and manufacturers in the country, serving over 1,500 retail jewelry stores and employing over 60 master jewelers.

Nicholas, Jr. ("Nick") grew up in the business, learning the trade and establishing his own relationships with vendors in the United States and around the world. Shortly after studying design at Pratt Institute and business at Pace University in the late 1960s, he took over the manufacturing business when his father passed away.

Nick continued running the business until he opened a high-end retail store in Bernardsville, New Jersey in the 1970s, while completing several diamond and colored stone certifications with the Gemological Institute of America. Years later, Nick moved with his wife and two young boys to Woodstock, Vermont to enjoy all that Vermont has to offer, and opened N.T. Ferro Jewelers in the center of Woodstock in 1981.

Nick has owned and operated N.T. Ferro Jewelers in Woodstock, Vermont for over 40 years. He is a registered Jeweler with the American Gem Society. In 1995, he won first prize for a diamond ring design in the national DeBeers Design Contest. In the  late 1990s, the store was awarded the AGTA Spectrum prize twice for custom designs.
